The best naturist beaches in the world

Travelling is the epitome of freedom: For many travelers, this means simply removing the swimsuit or bikini from the packing list when planning your next holiday. Because naked holidays are back in fashion. That's why we present a list of ten of the most beautiful nudist beaches in the world, where you can safely strip off in comfort.

Top 10 naturist beaches

Playa Es Pregons Grans, Majorca (Spain)

When it comes to acquiring a seamless tan, German holidaymakers, those intrepid pioneers of naturist culture, want for nothing on their favourite island of Mallorca. Just two kilometres away from the coastal town of Colónia de Sant Jordi, nudists can meet on the quiet beach of Playa Es Pregons Grans. The highlights of this 25-metre-wide sandy beach are its crystal-clear waters and the sand dunes in the backdrop, which are covered with pines and shrubs offering plenty of privacy.

Red Beach, Santorini (Greece)

The red cliffs rising directly behind the beach and the fine black-red gravel make the Red Beach on Santorini one of the most remarkable naturist beaches in the world. It is located eleven kilometres south of Fira and is within easy walking distance of the neighbouring bay of Akrotiri. Nude bathing is permitted at the northern end of the beach.

Orient Beach, St. Martin (Lesser Antilles, Caribbean)

The eastern part of Orient Beach on St. Martin in the Lesser Antilles is one of the few places in the Caribbean where nude bathing is allowed. A reef, three uninhabited islands, beach bars and a variety of water sports activities combined with turquoise-blue water and a white sandy beach will turn your dream of a naturist holiday into a reality.

Buhne 16, Sylt (Germany)

The naturist beach Buhne 16 on the island of Sylt is not only considered one of the most beautiful nudist beaches in the world, it’s also home to a beach bistro of the same name which has already acquired cult status. The island offers a variety of options for nude bathing, because naturism has a long tradition here. On the beach in List, for example, ardent devotees of naturist culture can warm up in a beach sauna.

Koversada, Istria (Croatia)

With its countless small bays, Croatia is considered an insider tip among naturists. If you are looking for a cheap clothes-free holiday, you will find it two kilometres south of Vrsar in the Koversada Naturist Park in Istria. Nudist culture has been practised and celebrated here in the Adriatic’s best-known naturist centre ever since the 1950s. Alongside its artificial sandy beach, sheltered bays with gently sloping sun terraces invite bathers to sunbathe without their clothes.

Haulover Beach, Florida (USA)

Despite its reputation as a land of opportunity, nudism is not widely practised in the US. Nevertheless, naturist fans don’t have to forego their preference for clothes-free bathing. North of Miami, one of the most beautiful naturist beaches in the United States sprawls along the shoreline of the Atlantic Coast. Officially labelled a beach where clothing is “optional", Haulover Beach in the Sunshine State boasts fine white sand, picnic facilities and beach bars – a place with that ‘pure Florida’ feeling!

Playa Las Gaviotas, Tenerife (Spain)

The naturist beach at Playa Las Gaviotas on Tenerife is a special place locals use as an oasis of relaxation away from the tourist crowds. As well as its fine black-lava sand, the backdrop of the Anaga Mountains, whose massive rock walls both frame and shelter the beach is particularly impressive. This is a cosy place with numerous rocky plateaus which are ideal for bathers and sun-worshippers alike. The residents of a hippy camp next to the beach complement the relaxed feel-good atmosphere.

Cap d’Agde, France

The naturist beach at Cap d'Agde stretches two kilometres along the French Mediterranean coast on the Gulf of Lyon. At the beach known as ""La Baie des Cochons"" between Sète and Bézier, naturist lovers will find a real nude-bathing paradise. It is set amid a 120-hectare naturist park and a Naturist Village complex, and holidaymakers on this fine sandy beach have not only numerous sports facilities to enjoy, but also two beach restaurants to choose from.

Es Cavallet, Ibiza (Spain)

Es Cavallet’s natural beach in the south of Ibiza exudes one thing above all else – a feeling of serenity. If you value your privacy, you can enjoy nude sunbathing in the sand dunes which are surrounded by pine forests. When there is a fresh easterly breeze, the more sporty bathers will get a chance to frolic in the high waves or watch the wind- and kitesurfers from the beach. Thirsty tourists will appreciate a craft beer or fresh fruit juice in the El Chiringuito bar at the northern end of this naturist beach.

Praia do Homem Nu, Portugal

Praia do Homem Nu lies at the western end of a narrow promontory, the island of Tavira. Nude bathing is officially allowed here – so it’s no coincidence that the name of this beach literally translates as the ""beach of the naked man"". Its four and a half kilometres of white sand beach is surrounded and sheltered by a dune landscape, and while sunbathing you will also get a wonderful panoramic view of the Barra da Fuseta beach and the island of Ilha da Armona.
