The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Thursday 11th June, in Mexico City. The World Cup Final will be on Sunday 19th July 2026 at New York New Jersey Stadium.

Group stages will last until 27th June, followed by one week of knock-out matches in the Round of 32, then a further Round of 16.

Quarter-final matches will be played between 9-11 July and the Semi-finals take place on 14-15 July. There is a third-place match (Bronze final) on 18th July, before the 2026 tournament concludes on 19th July when the winning team lifts the trophy.

Most host cities, including Atlanta, Seattle, and Toronto, have direct rail links to their stadiums. However, some venues like AT&T Stadium (Dallas) and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami) are more isolated. For budget-conscious fans, long-distance buses like Greyhound or FlixBus are available. Note that crossing borders requires separate documentation (e.g. an ESTA for the USA and an eTA for Canada), so plan accordingly.

For example, in Mexico City, the main festival is in the Zócalo, while in Vancouver, it’s at Hastings Park. These are often the best places to experience the atmosphere if you’re traveling on a budget.

The cost of travel and accommodation very close to World Cup match dates is likely to be expensive, as demand from international fans is high. To save a few bucks, look at hotels away from city centres but close to transport links. Local train and metro services will provide cheap and easy travel to the stadiums and fan zones. With many matches taking place outside the major cities, there's plenty of opportunity to stay in more budget-friendly locations while still being close to the action.
