The most strategic location for World Cup 2026 fans is Liberty Village or the Exhibition District. These areas sit directly adjacent to Toronto Stadium, BMO Field, and will be teeming with international supporters. For a more central "fan hub", the Entertainment District or King West offers immediate proximity to official watch parties and the massive Fan Festival at Fort York. These neighbourhoods are the soul of Toronto’s nightlife and will provide a 24/7 football party atmosphere.
For cheaper accommodation, look north toward North York or east toward Scarborough. While these areas are further from the lakefront, they are well-served by the TTC Subway (Line 1 and Line 2), allowing you to reach the downtown fan zones in 30 minutes. Budget hotels and hostels in the Chinatown or Kensington Market areas also offer a more affordable, eclectic stay while remaining within walking distance of the central fan festivities.
Toronto’s public transport is excellent for tournament travellers. The UP Express provides a dedicated, 25-minute rail link from Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Union Station, the city's central transit hub. From Union, you can take a quick GO Transit train or the 504 King Streetcar directly to the stadium area.
History will be made at BMO Field as Toronto hosts Canada’s first-ever men’s World Cup home match in front of a passionate crowd.
Toronto is a sprawling metropolis, but for the World Cup, the focus is firmly on the waterfront. Toronto Stadium (BMO Field) is located at Exhibition Place, just west of the city centre. While it’s slightly removed from the skyscrapers of the Financial District, the transport links are excellent.
The fastest way to reach the stadium from the city centre is the GO Train. Departing from Union Station, the Lakeshore West line will get you to Exhibition GO Station in a staggering 8 minutes. The station is literally steps from the stadium entrance. Note that the train runs roughly every 30 minutes, so check the schedule on the GO Transit app before setting off.
If you prefer a more "scenic" route, the TTC Streetcars (lines 509 Harbourfront or 511 Bathurst) run frequently and drop you right at the Exhibition grounds. For those staying in the trendy West End, the 29 Dufferin bus is a reliable local alternative that heads straight to the stadium gates. Toronto’s traffic is legendary, so avoid taxis or Ubers to the stadium at all costs on match days.
For payment, Toronto uses the PRESTO system, which supports contactless "tap on, tap off" with your UK bank card or phone (Google/Apple Pay). Simply tap the green readers as you board and exit.
If you’re using the TTC (subway or streetcars), it’s a flat fare of $3.30, which includes a two-hour transfer window so you can hop between lines without paying twice.
From Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), the UP Express (Union Pearson Express) is the undisputed king of airport transfers. It runs every 15 minutes and takes exactly 25 minutes to reach Union Station in the heart of downtown. It’s clean, has free Wi-Fi, and beats a taxi through the 401 motorway traffic any day of the week. Tickets are about $12.00, and you can simply tap your contactless card at the station platform.
If you’re landing at the smaller Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ), you’re even luckier - you can simply walk or take a 60-second ferry ride straight into the downtown core.
The GO Train from Union Station is the most efficient way to reach BMO Field. It’s a quick, one-stop journey (about 8 minutes) to Exhibition GO Station, which is right outside the stadium. Alternatively, you can take the 504 King Streetcar or the 511 Bathurst Streetcar for a more local (though slower) route.
Stay in the Entertainment District or Liberty Village. The Entertainment District puts you in the heart of the city’s nightlife, while Liberty Village is perfect if you want to be within walking distance of the stadium and the core fan celebrations.
The flagship Fan Festival is at Fort York National Historic Site. It’s a massive outdoor space that will feature giant screens and a festival atmosphere. For a lively pub experience, head to Liberty Village, which sits right next to the stadium and is packed with sports bars.
Expect it to be hot and humid. Toronto summers can get quite muggy, with temperatures often hitting 27-30°C. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so keep an eye on the forecast and stay hydrated.
Toronto is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in North America. You’ll find the atmosphere very welcoming, even late at night. Standard city precautions apply, but generally, you can feel very comfortable using public transport and walking around.
Toronto is a massive, spread-out city, so don't underestimate travel times. While the downtown core is walkable, reaching different neighbourhoods can take time. When using public transport, you can use a contactless card to pay as you go. Remember you’ll need a Canadian eTA for entry from the UK, or if you're travelling via the USA.
Yes, you can book everything from luxury hospitality packages to more basic bundles. If you’ve already sorted your match tickets, booking a Flight + Hotel package will take the stress out of travel logistics so you can relax and enjoy your World Cup experience.
Look for hotels in the North York or Scarborough areas near subway lines. You can save a lot by staying away from the waterfront and just commuting in on the TTC subway—a 30-minute ride can save you hundreds of pounds.
