Cheap flights to Istanbul

A bustling city with an abundance of culture, Istanbul is a great destination for explorers. The city is known as the place where East meets West due to its location between Europe and Asia. Sightseeing, food and shopping are just a few of the things that you can do in Istanbul.

Take in the Old City

The Old City of Istanbul is home to most of its historical and religious sights. Go to Sultanahmet Square to visit sights such as Basilica Cistern – the largest ancient cistern beneath the city – or Topkapı Palace – a grandly decorated palace used by the Ottoman emperors. For a taste of modern Istanbul head to Galata, a district just north of the Old City, and look at the great neo-classical and European-influenced architecture.

Shopping

Be taken back in time while visiting one of Istanbul's colourful bazaars. Spices, clothes and leather goods are just a few of the things that can be found. Visit the Grand Bazaar. Situated in the old city, it's one the oldest and largest Bazaars in the world and is a myriad of exotic tastes and smells. Pick up a traditional Turkish lantern or rug on one of the many stalls for a truly authentic souvenir. Istanbul also has many modern shopping malls all over the city with popular high street brands such as Zara, Gap and H&M.

Turkish cuisine

Sample Turkish cuisine all around the city from one of the many food vendors or 5-star restaurants. For a cheap snack head to one of the street vendors and order a doner kebab, or try a local favourite like Balık Ekmek, a simple but really tasty fish sandwich. Also check out Naif, a bright restaurant offering delicious sharing platters and great tabbouleh. Looking for something different? Head to Lokanta Maya. Situated in the Old City, the restaurant serves contemporary Turkish cuisine with a twist.

Nightlife

One thing not to be missed in Istanbul is the nightlife. Most of the bars and clubs are located in the districts of Ortaköy, Beyoğlu and Galata. There are lots of small bars in these areas with fantastic live music playing, so grab a beer and enjoy the atmosphere. Istanbul also has a lively clubbing scene with the two biggest clubs located in Ortaköy. Reina is one of the largest outdoor clubs in Europe. With a range of dance floors, bars and restaurants it is a must-visit.
