Chaweng beach is the most popular beach on the island – with golden sand and crystal clear waters it's easy to see why. There's more of a lively feel to this beach as there has been a great deal of development in the last few decades, with a number of bars and restaurants opening up along the stretch. Want to escape the crowds? Visit Mae Nam beach, a quiet beach with shallow waters and a stunning view.
Food
Bakeries, restaurants, cafés and stalls are just a number of places where you can eat on the Island. Koh Samui has an abundance of fresh seafood which is a definite favourite amongst locals. The food on Koh Samui is also known for its spiciness. Try authentic noodle dishes from the many street stalls to sample to spicy cuisine. There are also a lot of international restaurants and establishments like pizzerias and Irish pubs around Chaweng, so if you're missing home it's likely you'll find your home favourites there.
Go and explore
See Thailand's unique coral first hand and go diving. The clarity and warmth of the waters make diving in Koh Samui an amazing experience. An Thong National Marine Park is a great place to go diving. See bright sea fans, colourful corals, and butterfly fish. Then go back to dry land to visit the monkey-inhabited woods. Or you could take a tour around the Secret Buddha Garden, a stunning collection of statues of humans, animals and deities. It's home to the highest point of the island offering unrivalled views of the surrounding forests and mountains.
Nightlife
In recent years Koh Samui has gone from a seemingly quiet and ‘hippie' holiday destination to being known for having a vibrant and fun nightlife. Chaweng is the hub of the island's nightlife with a number of very popular bars and clubs in the area. Beer Bars are especially popular in the area as beer is especially cheap in the region. Ark Bar Beach Club is the host of the infamous Ark Bar Beach party, the party that goes on for 12 hours with live DJ's and an incredible 300-dish buffet. Karaoke bars are also popular on the island, where you can pick from a large range of songs and sing in a booth or at the bar.
