Things to do in Prague for couples

Romantic things to do in Prague

Visiting Prague is like stepping into a real-life fairytale, with its old-world feel, Baroque buildings, medieval layout and spire-topped churches. There are bridges to cross, parks to relax in and rivers to cruise down, plus plenty more, and it couldn’t be better explored than as part of a romantic getaway.

  1. Dine with a view at Tancici Dum
  2. Countdown at the Astronomical Clock
  3. Stroll across Charles Bridge at sunset
  4. Go for a Michelin-starred meal
  5. Explore Riegrovy Sady
  6. Take an evening river cruise
  7. Climb Vitkov Hill

Winter can be the most romantic time to visit with its snow-capped houses and dimly-lit streets, but autumn is just as pleasant with its earthy hues, as is spring for the blossoming nature in the parks and summer for hiring a pedalo out on the river. Make sure to check our guide on where to stay in Prague before booking your ideal holiday.

1. Tancici Dum: Enjoy good food, great views and better company

Tancici Dum, or the Dancing House, is one of the most romantic spots in Prague. This uniquely curved, glass-covered building is a brilliant place to take your loved one for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Take a lift up to the restaurant floor and ask for a table at the front of the restaurant, as this is where the best views can be enjoyed. While you tuck into your delicious food, enjoy the views from above, overlooking the riverside and busy pavements below.

Best for: Culture vultures.

While you’re there: Hop on the tram outside and whizz down to Vysehrad.

2. Countdown to the hour at the Astronomical Clock

Prague’s Old Town Square is one of the most dreamiest spots in all of Europe, let alone the Czech Republic, with its colourful medieval buildings, wide-set layout and fascinating monuments. Add to the mix the impressive Astronomical Clock, and you’ll find yourself in one of the most romantic places in Prague. Position yourselves in front of the clock (there’s always a small crowd gathered beneath it, so there’s really no missing it) and count down the seconds until the clock reaches the next hour. Then, the procession begins. From the skeleton of Death ringing his bells and wooden Prophets peering out of the window, to a cockerel signalling its end, this small, intricate procession has been enjoyed by countless numbers for years and years. It’s all so quaint, so historic, so… Prague.

Bets for: History lovers.

While you’re there: Pause at one of the restaurants lining the Square and take an outdoor table to admire the views.

3. Stroll across Charles Bridge at sunset

While Charles Bridge is another of Prague’s top highlights, one way to beat the main swell of crowds is by visiting at sunset. Take your partner’s hand as you stroll along the medieval stone bridge, admiring the city views from left to right, and Mala Strana straight ahead with Prague Castle perched up on its hill.

Best for: Sunset strollers.

While you’re there: Feel like you have the bridge to yourself with a late-night walk, when the bridge is ambiently lit up by dotted lamps.

4. Go for a Michelin-starred meal

Treat you and your partner to an evening of sublime food tasting at La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise. Despite the French-sounding name, you can enjoy modern takes on traditional Czech dishes – but we won’t spoil the surprise for you. This is the sort of place where you’ll continue to talk about it on future holidays; what better memento to return home with than a romantic experience?

Best for: Foodies.

While you’re there: Ask the sommelier for the best wine or non-alcoholic pairing.

5. Riegrovy Sady: Relax and explore the park

There’s plenty of parks to choose from in Prague, but one of the best has to be Riegrovy Sady. You could easily make an afternoon or hazy summer evening of it up here. With colourful flower beds, pockets of cuddle-friendly green space and twisting trails, you could make an afternoon of it here, and it also makes for a top spot to watch the sunset. What’s more, it boasts some fine views of Prague’s cityline, from the nearby Hlavni Nadrazi (central train station – it’s prettier than it sounds!) and Prague Castle.

Best for: Chilled-out couples.

While you’re there: Have dinner at the on-site restaurant.

6. Take an evening river cruise

One of the most romantic things to do in Prague has to be taking an evening river cruise along the Vltava. It’s not just the highlights you’ll take in – Charles Bridge, Narodni Divadlo, the tip of Prague Castle – but seeing the whole city lit up by orange streetlamps, its reflections of Baroque buildings and Renaissance houses wobbling back in the water. The variety of themes means that you and your partner can enjoy jazz nights, gourmet dinners and panoramic views while aboard a sophisticated evening cruise.

Best for: Those looking to mix sightseeing with pleasure.

While you’re there: Take a daytime cruise.

7. Vitkov Hill: A romantic climb

Located a little further away from the main hustle and bustle of Prague, Vitkov Hill is a romantic spot for couples looking for a bit of peace and quiet. At the top of the hill, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the city, and with fewer visitors than other popular parks means that you’ll feel like you have the place to yourself.

Best for: Those looking for peace and quiet.

While you’re there: Petrin Park is another romantic alternative.
