Museums
Take a trip back in time inside the Walsall Leather Museum, housed in a restored Victorian factory building. Here visitors can learn about the history of Walsall's famous leatherworking trade. Within the grounds, beautiful gardens planted with traditional tanning trees and shrubs can be found, along with a café serving homemade food and a shop selling Walsall-made leather goods.
Motor fans should visit the nearby Aston Manor Road Transport Museum. The museum specialises in buses, trucks and tramcars of yesteryear, with lots of related artefacts and displays of transport history. There is a small shop on site as well which sells transport models and books.
Out and about
Walkers will enjoy the Walsall Arboretum, a public park built in 1874 close to the town centre. Parts of the park and surrounding housing are covered by the Arboretum conservation area and the park also contains a children's play area and boating lake. Until 2008 it was also home to the famous Walsall Illuminations.
The Walsall Golf Club was formed in 1907 and is situated a short distance from the West Midlands motorway link. The 18-hole course has an abundance of sand traps and each and every green is closely guarded by bunkers requiring a precise second shot.
Those who like more adrenaline-fuelled pastimes should try out Ace Karting Plus, the Walsall indoor go-kart track. Test your driving skills to the limit on the superb track or take part in a highly competitive Grand Prix or Endurance Race.
Food and drink
Walsall has much to offer the discerning foodie. Pub food and Indian food are both specialities in the area; try the Black Country Arms or The Fountain for great food and drink as well as a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. Mirchi Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant has some superb food on offer and friendly staff, only too happy to help.
