Sightseeing in Truro

The city is home to the Royal Cornwall Museum. There's a small charge to enter, and inside you'll discover Truro's history and cultural heritage.

One of the most recognisable sights in Truro is the cathedral – one of only three in the United Kingdom built with three spires. It's a relatively new building, completed in 1910.

The Truro Festival is held in late March/early April, celebrating the diversity of the city's arts scene. Music, film, art, theatre and comedy come together for ten days of theatre performances and live outdoor shows.

Things to do in Cornwall

Hop on the train at Truro rail station for Redruth, St Erith and Penzance. It's less than an hour to Penzance at the end of the line.

Land's End is in Cornwall, and for many tourists it's unmissable. As well as being the point furthest west in both Cornwall and England as a whole, it's become a holiday resort in its own right.

Another key attraction for visitors to the area is the Eden Project. Wander around in the artificial ‘biodomes' to see plants from all over the world. The site also boasts the world's largest indoor rainforest.

Food and drink

The best-known snack in the region is the Cornish pasty. To be the real deal, it has to be made with potato, swede (or turnip), onion, diced beef and seasonings. The pastry, however, can be shortcrust or puff, so you will find variations between local bakers.

Truro has a strong café culture, shown in the large number of coffee shops in the city centre. There are more than 30 to choose from, many also serving food, snacks and Cornish ice cream.

Cornwall is also renowned for producing cider. Healey's Cornish Cyder Farm in Truro has tours and tastings for the adults – and farm animals for the kids to pet.
