How to reach Seychelles

Flight time: Flights to Seychelles from the UK take around 13 to 15 hours. Direct flights are rare, but you can fly to Mahé, the main island, via hubs in Europe or the Middle East.

Transfer time: Once you land at Seychelles International Airport on Mahé, it’s about a 10 to 15-minute taxi ride to the capital, Victoria, or around 20 to 25 minutes by bus. From there, ferries and boats are available to the other islands. Connecting flights also leave Mahé for the other main islands. Some hotels offer airport transfers, so ask about this when booking.

Price: A taxi from the airport to Victoria will cost about SR300–SR400 (£17–£23), while the bus fare is SR7 (£0.40). Shuttle services provided by some resorts can be pricey, but more convenient.

Best time to visit Seychelles

The Seychelles enjoys warm, sunny weather all year round with consistent temperatures of around 25°C to 30°C. However, it does get humid and there can be tropical downpours at any time of year, especially during the monsoon seasons, when it can get windy. The best time to visit can depend on what activities you’re planning.

May to October is when temperatures, rainfall and humidity are at their lowest, during the southeast monsoon. While July to September are busy times for tourists – with prices and demand for accommodation high – the strong winds mean choppier seas, especially around the southern islands, which are great for sailing or windsurfing, but not so good for boat trips or sea fishing. Inland, however, it’s a great time for walking and exploring the islands.

November to April is the hottest and wettest season, with less wind; heavy showers are more frequent in the northwest monsoon, which peaks from mid-December through to January. This period can also be busy with visitors during the Christmas holidays. Rain tends to fall in short bursts, so it’s still a great time for the beach and sightseeing.

Shoulder seasons: The best times for many people to visit are April to May and October to November, especially if you want to avoid the rain and high winds. These are also perfect for snorkelling and diving, as the waters are calm and clear.

• Spoken languages: The official languages are Creole, English and French. English is widely spoken, especially in hotels and tourist areas.
