The much larger island of Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidad is quintessentially Caribbean with its flourishing food scene and spectacular exotic scenery. Port of Spain
The capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain was founded as a colonial settlement in 1560 and became an official city in 1990. Spend some time at the impressive National Museum and Art Gallery, which was founded in 1892 and showcases the colonial history of the area and some of this nation's most treasured works of art. During the day, you could also have a stroll around Queen's Park, which is next to the terrific Stollmeyer's castle, a fascinating Scottish Baronial building. Port of Spain is also home to a picturesque botanical garden and the Emperor Valley Zoo, which was founded in 1952 and houses more than 2,000 animals. You could also see the magnificent Dattatreya Temple and Hanuman Statue, which includes one of the largest statues in the Caribbean and was built in the elaborate South Indian Dravidian architectural style.

Grande Riviere
Visit the secluded village of Grande Riviere, which is another popular destination for ecotourism and overlooks a wonderful sandy beach.

A little further inland, Chaguanas is next to the vast Caroni Swamp and has various shopping malls and lively bars.
San Fernando
Head to the attractive Harris Promenade with its fine historic landmarks, then go to the top of San Fernando Hill, where you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of the tropical landscapes.
