Sightseeing
The church of Saint Lazarus is home to the tomb of Saint Lazarus himself, and is also one of the most visited sites in Larnaca. The church is Byzantine with interesting architectural features such as the three domes. Go and take in the great interior of the church – it's ornately decorated true to Orthodox traditions, with beautiful religious paintings hung in intricate gold frames. To the west lies Larnaca Salt lake, where flocks of pink flamingos can be seen lazing about during the day. Next to the lake is the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque with beautiful ornamental gardens. For something more unique, scuba dive down to the wreck of Zenobia, a sunken ferry that lies close to the harbour. Explore the wreck on a range of different levels from the starboard side of the ship to the more difficult upper and lower car deck.
Go out for a drink
The Laiki Geitonia is the perfect place for a relaxed drink in a bar or night out in a club. Although most of the bars and clubs are small scale, there is still a lot of fun to be had mixing with locals and dancing to Greek pop. For something a little more offbeat, try the Blue Pine Bar and Restaurant, a quirky American establishment. With arguably the best selection of spirits, wines and beers in Larnaca, it also has a great classic rock playlist to accompany your drink.
Shop for souvenirs
Larnaca is the place to buy traditional Cypriot goods such as handmade lace, pottery, jewellery and silverware. Lefkara, a village famous for its lace and silverware, is located just outside Larnaca, meaning that both can be found readily in Larnaca itself. Zenon Kitieos street is your best bet for finding these goods as it is the main shopping street in Larnaca. With a mix of shops and market stalls, explore the area and haggle for the best prices on souvenirs and spices. There are also quite a few independent jewellery makers in Larnaca. If you're looking to splurge out on a souvenir, head to Oro Fine Jewellery – it specialises in precious stones and Greek designs.
