Sample the island’s top tipples at vineyards, bodegas and bars

However, the island has a long and proud history of wine production, dating back to the Roman era. So, if you're planning a holiday in Majorca, consider adding wine tasting to your itinerary.

The biggest of the Balearic Islands, known for its numerous bodegas and fincas, offers some of the best things to do in Majorca, especially for wine enthusiasts. These estates produce both traditional Majorcan styles and international varieties.

In our guide, you'll find more information on how to visit these producers, learn about the winemaking process, and, of course, sample the end result. Often, these tastings are paired with delicious tapas or even a three-course meal, adding to the unique experience of Majorcan wine culture.

1. Bodegas Vi Rei

Bodegas Vi Rei, situated in the south of the island just over half an hour’s drive from Palma, offers an array of tasting tours and experiences to suit all palates.

The standard guided tour takes in the fermentation zone, the barrel room and the bottling machines. If you’re feeling peckish, the winery’s food & wine pairings include the Chocowine experience, a wine and cheese board extravaganza, and the bread and wine platter.

One particularly interesting option is the contrast tasting, where visitors can compare young wines with oak-aged wines of the same vintage, showcasing the subtle nuances between the two types. And if you’re not sold yet, there’s even the opportunity to take a guided tour on a charming mini-train.

Prices: €20 for 1hr guided tour, €25 for 5 wines & breads, €35 for Chocowine

Times: 12:30pm Thursdays for English tour

2. Macià Batle

If you’re curious about the winemaking process, it’s an excellent choice for a visit as there are multiple daily tours from Monday through to Saturday. Visitors are guided through the fermentation zones to the bottling area, the cellar full of oak barrels, and the ageing zone.

And after all this anticipation, you’ll finally get to sample a generous selection of five wines, expertly paired with Mallorquin specialities, including extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pâté.

Prices: €20 adults, €10 for 10–18s, free for under 10s

If you opt for the full visit to discover the winery inside and out, you’ll also get Son Prim’s bountiful snack selection, including bait ham, Majorcan cheese and sobrasada sausage.

Last but certainly not least, you can push the boat out and opt for the gastronomic experience: a wine tasting followed by a full three-course menu of traditional specialities.

Visitors can sample all the finca’s wines, served alongside Majorcan bread and the farm’s own olive oil, at a tasting session. If you fancy a more substantial snack to line your stomach, try the tasting & tapas combo, featuring tortilla, vegetable coca (flatbread), a selection of sausages and cheese, bread, olives and extra virgin olive oil.

If you want to get a closer look at the inner workings of a winery, Finca Biniagual also offers guided tours in small groups – finishing with some samples and tapas, of course.

The Tapas Tour features the same guided visit as the Enologic Tour but ends with a tasting of four wines and an array of delicious Majorcan tapas, served on the scenic terrace. The Gastronomic Tour is the ultimate foodie option, pairing five wines with local dishes following a guided visit to the production facilities.
