Read on to find out about the best beaches in Alcúdia, from secluded spots reached only by foot or boat to long stretches of send with plenty of facilities, food and drink. Whether you want to swim, snorkel or sunbathe with a cocktail – we’ve got you covered.
If you’re staying in Alcúdia you’re blessed with one of the best and longest beaches in Majorca. Platja d’Alcúdia is probably the best of the Alcúdia beaches, a seemingly endless swathe of sandy shore stretching for over seven kilometres, eventually turning into Playa de Muro. If you’re staying in Port d’Alcúdia you can merely step from your accommodation to this fantastic beach, or you can drive along the coast and pick a new sunbathing spot on the beach every day. Many people also walk the length of the beach, exploring peaceful spots they find. Depending on the wind, you’ll find good waves for water sports or a calm, barely-rippling sea that’s beautifully shallow for swimming. There are plenty of loungers and shade and several stretches of beach marked out by hotels, but there’s also ample space to pitch your own towel. The beach has toilets and water-sports rental, as well as lifeguards at regular intervals. The most crowded spot tends to be right in front of the main Port d’Alcúdia strip of hotels, while both ends of the beach are usually quieter.
Facilities: Loungers, shade, hotels, restaurants, lifeguards, water sports
Best for: Classic easy beach day, sunbathing, swimming & sports
If you’re looking for adventure, make a beeline for Es Coll Baix. This is one of the quietest, most remote beaches in Alcúdia because it takes a little more effort to access. To reach this peaceful cove you can either take a boat trip or walk. For the latter, you’ll need drive to the start of the Refugi del Coll Baix hiking trail, following the road Carrer de la Muntaña which eventually becomes a rougher, dirt road. There are several parking spots along the road and from there, you set out on foot following the signposts down to the bay. There are no facilities on the beach itself, so be sure to pack all your provisions for the day. There is one basic toilet, on the last stretch of hike just before you reach the beach. Once at the beach, you’re greeted with a peaceful, shingle cove and a calm, clear and deep sea. The scenery is dramatic and the atmosphere quiet, as there are no water sports or nearby hotels – outside of high season, you might have the beach entirely to yourself.
Facilities: Some parking, one toilet
Best for: Off-grid adventure, hiking
Playa de Olia and Cala Victoria are two of the most romantic Alcúdia beaches, sat side-by-side, facing a gorgeous sunset over the Pollença peninsula, perfect for you and your better half. The drive here, along the coast road Cami Vell de la Victoria is stunning, worthy of more than a few photo stops. There are limited opportunities to park (and parking on the road is prohibited) but this means that there are fewer visitors to the beach. Many people choose to drive the scenic route all the way to the Victoria viewpoint at the top of the hill and then walk back down to the beaches. The shore is a mix of rocks and coarse shingle and people come for the peace and the impeccably clear sea. Both little coves are highly recommended for snorkelling, with an ideal rocky bottom and a tiny islet in the bay providing the perfect haven for Majorca’s under-sea residents. There’s a small restaurant providing shade and refreshments, as well as a toilet, and some picnic benches at the top of the cliffs before you descend to the blissful water. Here are more ideas on what to do in Alcudia with your partner.
Facilities: Picnic benches, limited parking, restaurant/café with shade
Best for: Snorkelling & sunsets
Just six minutes’ drive from Alcúdia old town (or an easy cycle if you prefer), the tiny settlement of Mal Pas is home to two delightful Alcúdia beaches, that are as popular with locals as with tourists. Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan is a delightful sandy shore sheltered by rocky promontories at either end and backed by greenery. The best thing about this beach is the sandy bottom as you walk out into the water, and the calm, shallow and clear sea. There is a lifeguard’s hut and bins provided, but otherwise the beach is simple, with no facilities. Platja de San Pere is smaller but equally sandy. There’s also a lifeguard on duty and here, you can rent shade and loungers too. Both beaches are great spots for families with younger children, looking for a quiet, fuss-free beach day. At these coves, you’re in for a calm day, surrounded by greenery and red rocks, and looking out over a classically Majorcan view. It’s also a good spot to try snorkelling as the water is very clear.
If you're there on a Tuesday or a Sunday you can also catch Alcudia's market in the old town.
Facilities: Beach bar, lifeguard, some loungers & shade (at San Pere)
Best for: Quiet romantic or family day out
While staying in Alcúdia, why not make the (very easy) day trip to Port de Pollença? In less than half an hour by car or bus, you can be in the charming beach resort, pitching your towel on its long, sandy beach Platja de Can Cap de Bou. Often the sea is blissfully still, clear and blue – perfect for swimming and snorkelling – but when the wind is right, the beach is good for water sports. The generous sandy shore is backed by restaurants, hotels and facilities, and there are shade and loungers for rent. The seabed is mostly soft and sandy, too. Slightly further away (but still less than an hour) Cala Sant Vicenç is a petite and popular resort town with three fantastic beaches. Platja de Cala Barques is probably the most popular, with its exclusive-feeling sliver of sand-and-shingle shore and calm, shallow cove. There are some loungers and shade as well as space to spread your own towel, although locals prefer to make their own spot on the smooth rocks. You’re very close to several seafood restaurants and just a few minutes’ walk from the other beaches in town too.
Facilities Port de Pollença: Loungers, shade, restaurants, water sports
Facilities Cala Sant Vicenç: Restaurants, parking, some loungers & shade
