The abbey

England's second largest parish church, Tewkesbury Abbey was established in the early Middle Ages and was fortunate enough to survive the Battle of Tewkesbury, despite suffering extensive damage. The building, like other monasteries in the country, was dissolved during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the Tudor era, although it was carefully restored in the 1870s.

The Tewkesbury Museum

Learn about the town's monastic past, ancient origins, and the formidable Battle of Tewkesbury at the fascinating Tewkesbury Museum, which welcomes people of all ages. The venue celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012, and examines the human activity in this area of Gloucestershire over the last five millennia.
