Much of the village is officially a Conservation Area, protected by English Heritage. Prestbury has been undergoing considerable development, with more homes being built to reinforce its suitability as a commuter base.

On a stroll around Prestbury, you can see the large mansions owned by famous residents. Footballer Wayne Rooney had his own house built here. Noddy Holder from Slade and cricketer Andrew Flintoff are also said to own houses in the village.

Adlington Hall is nearby, with a Great Hall dating back to the 15th century. The grounds include no less than 11 Grade II listed buildings, and are open to the public for visits and guided tours.

Restaurants in Prestbury

The quality of the food you'll find in Prestbury is high across the board, as you'd expect from an area favoured by celebs. You never need to travel far to dine, as several Prestbury hotels have their own restaurants inside or next door.

Take your pick from Thai, Indian, Chinese and modern British cuisine.

Bacchus is one of the more popular Prestbury restaurants. It boasts an impressive wine list and holds regular music evenings. The Saffron Room is another local favourite, serving up authentic Indian dishes – you can book a sit-down dinner or order a takeaway.

Getting around

Prestbury is ideally located for both public transport and the A523 (London Road). The road passes through three counties, linking the village to Macclesfield and Ashbourne.

The village's train station is on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent.

Prestbury is also very close to the west side of the Peak District. You can reach the edge of the Peak District by car in around 15 minutes. Along the A537, which passes by Macclesfield Forest, there are tea rooms and gastropubs to take a break at.
