Porlock Hotels

One of the most famous poets to visit this area of Somerset was Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who wrote the poem Kubla Khan (1797) but was allegedly interrupted by a 'person from Porlock' while he was writing it.

The Greencombe Gardens

This charming woodland garden, which opened in the 1940s, is regularly open to visitors and is an ideal place to enjoy some refreshing afternoon tea. The garden features many pretty seasonal plants and a substantial beetle population, and was originally a deer park in the medieval period.

The Dovery Manor Museum

Another popular visitor attraction in Porlock, the Dovery Manor Museum exhibits many interesting artefacts and memorabilia related to the village's history, and also organises regular music performances and talks. The museum is housed in a former manor house that has existed since the 15th century and is noted for its beautiful oak-beamed ceilings.

Porlock Weir

Just a couple of miles to the northwest of Porlock, Porlock Weir has been a small maritime centre for more than a millennium and is renowned for its attractive 17th-century cottages. The village, which is well within reach of all Porlock hotels, is very close to the hamlet of Culbone, which contains what is estimated to be England's smallest parish church.
