Penkridge really comes into its own on market days when in the region of 100 stallholders flood the town. A wide variety of local food produce, arts and crafts, clothing and essentials are always on offer. The vibrant general market is held every Wednesday and Saturday, while a specialist food and craft fair takes place on the third Saturday of every month. There's lots going on outside of market days too thanks to the great variety of shops and boutiques dotted throughout the town.
Local attractions
Saint Michael and All Angels Penkridge has played a central role in the life of the town down through the centuries and is well worth visiting. The Grade I listed building can be found in the heart of Penkridge and dates from the 13th century.
Lower Drayton Farm, situated just over a mile to north of town, is a great option for families. Tractor rides, friendly animals, an adventure playground and exciting nature trails are all on offer here. Alternatively, take a historic tour around nearby Chillington Hall, a stately home that has been in the hands of the Giffard family for more than 800 years.
Around the area
Penkridge's picturesque setting means getting out and about on foot is a must if you're spending time in the area. Take a relaxed stroll along the River Penk or visit Cannock Chase Forest, where you'll find a fantastic range of activities to enjoy from woodland walks to mountain bike trails. The forest is also home to an adventure play area for younger children, as well as Go Ape, a high ropes course designed to test your nerve.
Head to Pillaton Hall Farm to find four well-stocked coarse fishing pools, where you can spend the day trying to catch bream and carp while enjoying wonderful views out across Cannock Chase.
