For Jakarta, the airport rail link from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the city centre takes about 45 minutes. From Yogyakarta airport it's a 35-minute train ride, while the drive from Lombok International Airport to Senggigi or Kuta Lombok takes 1 to 2 hours.

• Price: From Bali’s airport, a taxi costs around Rp 150,000 (£8). A train costs Rp 50,000 (£2.50) in Jakarta or Yogyakarta. On Lombok, taxi prices range from Rp 200,000 (£10) to Rp 300,000 (£15), depending on the destination.

Best time to visit Indonesia

• May to October is the dry season and the best time of year to visit. Temperatures are warm, ranging between 25°C and 32°C, with about 8–9 hours of sunshine daily. The biggest numbers of tourists arrive in July and August, and prices are highest then.
