Information about flights to Trondheim
The Nordic countries are home to a really distinctive combination of friendly people and gorgeous countryside. This ex-Viking home sits at the mouth of the river Nidelva and is steeped in the kind of history you'd expect from the Tolkien-style place names.
In the city
The city is located a short distance from Trondheim airport, but there are a variety of ways you can get there. One of the most convenient and simpler methods is the Airport express coach, which will run you straight into the city centre.
Norway can have a cooler climate at times, so once you've finished your Trondheim flights you'll want to enjoy some of the great city entertainment. Visit the Nidaros Cathedral to see the impressive gothic architecture, or take a short journey out of the city to the Kristiansten Fortress to see another historic building. Both have interesting histories to learn about. The fortress, in particular, has had a really colourful past. Most recently it was used for a prison and place of execution for convicted war criminals.
More centrally, you can see the Old Town of Trondheim. Here you will find yourself in a picturesque part of the city where the Old Town bridge is the centre of attention. The bridge is called the Gate of Fortune and stands next to an excise house on its west side where you can stop for a quick photo opportunity.
Munkholm
The island of Munkholm makes for a great day trip. Take a boat out to the island and return the same way, where you can see a miniature museum that will explain everything about this mysterious island. The former prison now makes for a lovely day trip, and gives you the chance to spot some of the local wildlife at the same time.
