Less than 600 miles from the coast of the island of Madagascar, Mauritius is a tropical paradise with fabulous hotel resorts and some of the finest natural scenery the world has to offer. The nation's capital, Port Louis, dates back to at least the 17th century and is now home to a wide variety of hotels, restaurants and boutiques thanks to the growth of the country's tourism industry since the turn of the 21st century.
A haven for water sports fans
The island benefits from world-class water sports facilities and is a particularly popular destination for water skiing, sea kayaking, parasailing and many other water-based activities. Thanks to the very clear seawater and extensive aquatic life, Mauritius is also a great destination for snorkelling, although equally ideal for people who would prefer to spend more of their time sunbathing on a beach.
Flawless sandy beaches
With 330 kilometres of coastline, you'll have little difficulty finding a secluded sandy beach, even one that is markedly less crowded than those of better known holiday destinations such as the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. The pristine Plage Mon Choisy, just over a mile in length in the far north of the island, is overlooked by beautiful tropical vegetation and is a fantastic choice for swimming, thanks to its calm waters. Further south, you can find the Paradise Beach of Point d'Esny, which is also renowned for its incredibly clean white sand and is overlooked by luxury holiday homes.

The island is already home to numerous deluxe resorts such as the Shandrania Resort & Spa, which is home to a magnificent outdoor pool and five charming beach-front restaurants.
