Information about flights to Gibraltar
At the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula lies Gibraltar, a British overseas territory. Book one of our flights to Gibraltar and enjoy a slice of the UK in the Mediterranean.
Rock of Ages
The most conspicuous thing about Gibraltar is the 426m high Rock whose geological formation began more than 175 million years ago.
Great Siege Tunnels
Beneath the Rock lies a network of tunnels created to move artillery around to more advantageous positions during the Great Siege of 1779 to 1783. The idea for the tunnels came from Sgt Major Henry Ince and it helped the British retain the territory from the combined forces of France and Spain. Retread the steps of the soldiers of that era and see displays that explain the events.
Go Ape
Although outnumbered by their human counterparts by 100-1, the Rock's Old World monkeys certainly make their presence known. These creatures were introduced to Gibraltar from Morocco and remain the only Barbary Macaques living free outside of Northern Africa. These little critters aren't shy and they'll provide plenty of photo opportunities as they go about their business.
Get to the top
It's not necessarily the easiest of ascents by foot but the trail to the top of the Rock, via the Mediterranean Steps, is worth completing. You'll start at Jew's Gate at 180 metres above sea level and traverse 1,400 metres before arriving at O'Hara's Battery close to the summit, some 419 metres high. You'll be rewarded with a spectacular view across the Bay of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Strait.
Cathedral Cave
A cavern that abounds with stalactites and stalagmites, St Michael's Cave (or Cathedral Cave as it is often referred too) is well worth investigating. Orange and yellow hues dominate, while the constant drip-drip of water provides an ever-present soundscape. It's a wonderful space to explore and the acoustics of the cavern also make it a fine venue for concerts, which are often held here.
Eating and drinking
With its bayside location, Lounge Gastro Bar not only provides a delicious menu of steaks, seafood and salads, it offers great views across Queensway Marina. An eclectic menu of Continental European and Indian cuisine, Gatsby's has proven to be a popular haunt for locals and visitors alike since its inception in 1988. Nightlife
Gibraltar has a huge selection of pubs, many of which open until 02&colon00. And if by that point you're not flagging, then there are a good few bars and clubs that remain open even longer. Several of the larger hotels have bars and clubs too, and there's even a casino in which to while away your evenings and early mornings.
