Beaches
There are a great range of beaches in Alicante. From the moment you step off the plane you'll have a choice of quiet, busy, relaxing or active shores. Levante in Benidorm is your typical Spanish beach. As a hugely popular tourist destination, Benidorm makes the most of Levante with great scenery, still waters and plenty of families enjoying the surroundings. In Javea you will find the picturesque beach of La Granadella, so beautiful that it attracts photography fanatics from all over the continent. La Granadella can make for a fantastic sunbathing spot for those who want to return with a tan. If you're looking for a quieter spot then Les Bovetes in Denia has 15 kilometres of beach to choose from, enough space for everyone to find some peace and quiet.
Museums
If you want to learn about Alicante during your time there, you'll find it easy at one of the many museums. For a family friendly afternoon take the kids to learn about the Volvo Ocean Race, a unique regatta that is displayed nicely in the city's port. If you're more interested in the Spanish architecture then the MARQ Provinivial archaeological museum has a series of interesting and educational displays that will teach you about the way Alicante developed its unique style of building.
Alternatively, the Barco Restaurante El Trinidad is a large boat with a smaller museum, and the all-important food and drink that gives this land-locked ship its real appeal.
Places to see
If you feel like checking out some of the Spanish buildings in person rather than just learning about them then the Alicante town hall is well worth a visit. Not far from there you can enjoy the Puerto Deportivo promenade which runs along the water. A short walk down the promenade will show you many of the local boats and beautiful natural surroundings of Alicante, perfect as the sun sets.
Outside the city you can see the Santa Barbara Castle. This piece of old-time architecture sits on top of Mount Benecantil. It's easy to feel like you've been transported back into Spanish empire times as you approach the impressive building.
