As you'd expect from any major city in the UK, there are lots of Preston hotels to choose from. Several major roads come through Preston city centre, perfect for commuting and getting to the M6.

Sightseeing in Preston

Just north of the city, Hoghton Tower – a fortified manor house – stands high on a hill. It's a family-friendly visitor attraction, dating back to 1109.

Near to Preston train station, the Grade II listed Avenham Park and Miller Park are two wide green spaces to enjoy. With the River Ribble at one end, the parks feel like an escape from the city's busy atmosphere.

Cheer on the home team at Deepdale, the former site of the National Football Museum. Preston North End football club was one of the original Football League's founding clubs.

History and architecture

A key architectural highlight in the city is Preston Bus Station. It was built in the 1960s in the ‘Brutalist' style of building design. At one point the bus station was earmarked for demolition, yet it now claims Grade II listed building status.

The Ribble Steam Railway is open on weekends between May and September. It's one of the last remaining steam railways in England, and the three-mile round trip passes a dock swing bridge and the river.

Preston is where the Museum of Lancashire is based. The museum is an award-winning tourist attraction, with a huge permanent exhibition on the county's history and culture.

Entertainment

The city has been given a Purple Flag award for the safety of its nightlife and venues. The evening entertainment in Preston is some of the best in the country.

The Preston Guild Hall & Charter Theatre has a 780-person capacity. The theatre schedule is a mix of plays, comedy, music and family shows.

Comedy is a big deal here, and Preston has several comedy clubs including Manfords (run by local comedian Jason Manford). You can also catch a show by the Preston Musical Comedy Society, which performs classic musicals and a Christmas panto.
