Hayling's three main beaches are each recipients of the prestigious Blue Flag. Hayling's seafront is made up of soft shingle and long stretches of sand. From here you'll have great views across the Solent, with the Isle of Wight particularly prominent. West Beach is especially good for swimming, and, to the east, Sandy Point's nature reserve inhabits undeveloped land that has barely changed in over a century. The grassland of Sandy Point Nature Reserve is rich with flowers such as creeping forget-me-nots and sheep sorrel which attract lots of butterflies. Many varieties of birds can be seen here too, including whitethroats, linnets and long-tailed warblers.
A popular four-mile coastal path runs along the route of the now defunct Hayling Island Branch Line. Fondly known as the Hayling Billy, the railway ran between 1865 and 1963. Speaking of railways, kids will love the mile-long, 2ft narrow gauge line that runs along the seafront between Beachlands and Eastoke Corner.
A three minute stroll from Beachlands Railway Station brings you to Funland, an amusement park with rollercoasters, white-knuckle rides and traditional fairground attractions like the helter skelter and a crazy golf course. There are a host of indoor pursuits such as ten-pin bowling as well as traditional slot machines and arcade games.
