Landscape

The landscape around La Clusaz is pristine and breathtaking in every season, but of course best known as a snow-clad ski resort. Surrounded by towering peaks, unspoilt alpine valleys and sparkling lakes, such as Lac des Confins, the village is 20 miles from the lovely town and lake of Annecy. La Clusaz nestles in the Aravis skiing area, which it shares with the neighbouring village of Le Grand Bornand and between them, these little alpine havens boast 140 miles of exciting pistes.

In July 2010 the Tour de France came through Le Clusaz, with Stage 9 climbing to the top of the Col des Aravis, before plunging to the finish at Saint Jean de Maurienne.

Restaurants and après ski

La Clusaz is lively and well stocked with places to eat, drink and enjoy your stay. The village is well known for its ‘welcome evenings' where free hot chocolate and vin chaud flow, and you can find out what treats are in store out on the slopes. There's a good choice of relaxed and welcoming mountain restaurants, such as Les Relais d'Aguille and Les Chalet des Praz. The family friendly L'Ourson is also excellent. Wherever you go, you will find the famous local Reblochon cheese being proudly offered.

For a little high-end sophistication, you might like to sample Le 5, where the food is delicious and the wine list superb.

Out in the elements, you can look forward to weekly torch-lit slope descents, full moon parties and if you're a seasonal visitor, Christmas carnivals.

Activities

La Clusaz hotels offer you a snug and welcoming base to enjoy the snow, but there is more to enjoy off-piste. Choose from snowmobile and dog sled adventures, paragliding and heli-tours, indoor sports facilities and swimming pools, plus both indoor and outdoor ice rinks.
