Swish Swiss Shopping
Retail therapy won't just involve a Cuckoo Clock and Swiss Army Knife when in Geneva. Head to theCity Centre, if you've booked a cheap Geneva hotel, then this is the place to splash that saved cash. Bongenie Grieder is a 7 floor department store full of designer brands such as Prada, Ralph Lauren and Armani. If you want something historic head toThe Old Town, full of art and antique shops. Our favourite shopping district isRue des Paquis, filled with trendy vintage boutiques, bookshops and many affordable bargains.
Culinary Crossroad
Being on the border of France, Germany and Italy, Switzerland has developed a diverse taste and Geneva is no different. Once we've had our fill of Swiss chocolates, we love heading toBuvette des Bains, located on the lake and asking for the Plat du Jour. If it's something romantic you're after, head toPerle du Lac, an ambient restaurant in a public park next to the Lake Genva footpath.
Amazing Attractions
First built in 1886, the Jet d'Eau is a large fountain and one of Geneva's most famous landmarks, shooting 500 litres of water 140 metres high, a sight that can be seen from a passenger plane thirty thousand feet up. For science enthusiasts, head toCERNand the unique visual landmark ofThe Globe of Science and Innovation, housing exhibitions dedicated to the universe.
Historic Households
Helped by Julius Caeser into becoming a roman city, Geneva's architecture bridges much of its storied past to the present. We love theMaison Tavel, built in 1303 and perhaps the oldest house in Geneva; it has become one of the city's latest museums.Molard Toweris a reconstructed 1591 building, which has original painted friezes and coats of arms belonging to distinguished families.
