Hotels in Hatfield

Probably best known for the enchanting country mansion of Hatfield House, Hatfield is a pleasant early-medieval town that grew rapidly in the second half of the 20th century.

What to see:

Hatfield House

More than 400 years old, Hatfield House is one of the finest Jacobean buildings in the country and is now a major tourist attraction. The majestic building was built for the influential politician Robet Cecil, 1st Early of Salisbury, and was featured in the popular 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' starring the Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie.

The Welwyn Roman Baths

Very close to Hatfield, the Welwyn Roman Baths are now protected as a scheduled ancient monument, although the baths haven't actually been used for around 1,800 years. The site was excavated in the 1960s and may have been part of a large Roman hotel and farm next to a Roman road.

The Mill Green Mill and Museum

This picturesque Georgian watermill still produces flour and contains three galleries exhibiting the heritage of the local area. The Mill Green Mill and Museum also overlooks a beautiful Jubilee Garden, which was landscaped in the Tudor style and commemorates Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee.

For some wonderful Indian and Nepalese cuisine, head to the Everest Spice Lounge, or try Prezzo for some divine Italian flavours.
