Hotels in Cancun

Surrounded by the emerald tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Cancún is one of the leading holiday destinations in Mexico, well connected to the rest of the world with its international airport, and close to many world-renowned archaeological sites.

This plush resort also overlooks the extraordinary Maya Barrier Reef, the size of which is only exceeded by the Great Barrier Reef near the Australian coast.

Where to visit in and around Cancún

Cancún Underwater Museum

No matter how many famous museums or heritage sites you've visited in your life, you'll never find anything quite like theCancún Underwater Museum. As the name would imply, this is an aquatic exhibition comprising hundreds of sculptures, many of which are naturally covered in algae to create habitats for marine life and to protect species from storms.

Day trip ideas:

Xel-Ha Park

A spectacular aquatic theme park, the Xel-Ha Park celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2014 and comprises a breathtaking lagoon and inlet. The attraction also includes a natural aquarium, where visitors can observe many beautiful tropical fish, and is the perfect place for snorkelling and swimming thanks to its sheltered location.

Established approximately 2,000 years ago, Coba was once a strategic trading centre, although the settlement became derelict soon after the Spanish settled in the area in the 16th century. The site, which has two lagoons, was not fully explored until the 20th century, and is dominated by the 130 feet tall Nohoch Mul pyramid.

Chichen Itza

Established in the Late Classic period, Chichen Itza welcomes more than a million visitors annually and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Probably the most striking feature of this attraction is El Castillo (The Castle), which is more than 1,100 years old and is one of the best-known Mesoamerican monuments in the country.

If you're looking for deluxe accommodation with first-rate hospitality and exquisite furnishings, you could book a room at the Live Aqua Cancún All Inclusive hotel or the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, some of the most sought-after Cancún hotels. The stylish Antillano Hotel and the Hotel Hacienda de Castilla also provide very good value for money, while the NIZUC Resort and Spa is perfect for romantic breaks and honeymoons.

Ideas on where to eat out

Treat yourself to some fresh, very flavoursome Italian cuisine at La Dolce Vita Centro, or head to Les Cepages Restaurant for other top-notch French-inspired dishes. For some authentic, vibrant Mexican flavours, you could dine at Peter's Restaurante, or consider the Tempo by Martin Berasategui for some delicious Basque-themed food.

Cancún has an enviable reputation for its world-class nightlife venues, one of the most popular of which is Dady'O, a thriving nightclub. The Mandala is also known for its friendly, cosmopolitan vibe, while Cocobongo is revered for its excellent nightly shows and diverse dance music.
