How to reach Marmaris

• Flight time: Flights to Dalaman from London are a shade over 4 hours.

• Transfer time: The drive from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris town centre is around 1 hour 30 minutes by car or shuttle bus.

• Price: Airport shuttle services cost TRY200 (£5) for a single ticket, while a private taxi or transfer from Dalaman Airport will cost around TRY2,000 (£45).

• April to June welcomes highs ranging from 22°C to 32°C. With very little rainfall and about 8 to 10 hours of daily sunshine, this is a lovely time for exploring nature and coastal activities before the intense heat of summer.

• July to August is the time to hit the beach, with highs reaching up to 36°C, minimal rain and up to 13 hours of daily sunshine. Marmaris is also at its most lively, with plenty of open-air events.

• September to October is perfect for those who like it a little less hot and don’t mind a bit of rain. With temperatures between 32°C and 27°C, this quieter shoulder season is ideal for exploring Marmaris’s outdoor sites.

• November to March is cooler still, temperatures dropping from 22°C in November to 16°C by January before rising to 19°C in March. The weather can be unpredictable, but these tourist-lite months can be a pleasant time for a low-key break.

• Spoken languages: Turkish is the official language, but most locals have a good grasp of English.

• Currency: Turkey uses the Turkish Lira.

• Getting around: Marmaris is easy to explore via colour-coded dolmuş (minibuses) services. The green buses serve the town, orange buses shuttle to İçmeler and blue buses to Armutalan. They’re as cheap as chips, but you need to pay in cash with the exact fare. Taxis are another option. Fares vary; they are metered, but you’ll likely have to ask the driver to turn them on. Water taxis run to İçmeler and Turunç from May to October, costing around TRY300 (£7).

• Electricity and plug types: The standard voltage is 220V (frequency 50Hz). Turkey uses type C and F plug sockets.
