Weather and best time to visit Lefkada

The best time for your Lefkada holidays depends on the ingredients for your perfect vacation: warm weather, fewer crowds or perhaps a taste of local festivals.

May to June is ideal if you want to experience the great outdoors. You can’t rule out some showery weather, but in the main, it will be warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 19 to 24°C. These are pleasant swimming months with sea temperatures between 20 and 23°C. Expect tourist numbers to pick up towards the end of June.

July to August pretty much guarantees dry, hot, sunny weather and heat-loving crowds. Temperatures average 27°C both months. If bustling beaches, lively nightlife and festivals float your boat, these are the months to go.

September to October sees a drop in temperatures, from 24 to 19°C, and more rainfall, 31–37mm, but there are still 10 to 8 hours of sunshine daily. These are fantastic swimming months, with sea temperatures ranging from 26 to 23°C.

November to April are cooler, wetter months, temperatures falling from 15°C in November to 9°C by January before inching up to 16°C in April. The rain begins to dry up going into March. With most tourists long gone, these months are an opportunity to see the island at its most authentic. You can squeeze in swims until December; after that, sea temps fall below 17°C, and swimming will likely be off the agenda until April at the earliest.

Taxi fares vary depending on the distance travelled; as a guide, a taxi from Lefkada Town to Ligia will cost around €12, €25 to Ag Nikitas, €55 to Vassiliki.
