Dubrovnik
The city of Dubrovnik is the first port of call for many visitors to Croatia and with its stunning Old Town, historic buildings, excellent restaurants and bars, and vibrant atmosphere, it is little wonder people return again and again. Find time to explore the city walls, admire the architecture on display at the Cathedral of the Assumption and hop into a cable car to climb Mount Srd for breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Southern Dalmatia
A little further up the coast from Dubrovnik lies Dalmatia. It is one of the most-visited parts of the country and an excellent place for a first visit. Start out by catching a ferry over to the island of Korcula, home to vineyards and olive groves, attractive coves and beautiful sandy beaches.
Carry on to the island of Hvar, undoubtedly one of the more exclusive corners of Dalmatia. Here you can expect to dine in elegant restaurants, find hugely expensive yachts moored in the harbour, and dance the night away in trendy pubs and clubs. While the interior of the island offers a more tranquil and laidback experience, Hvar Town is the place to be seen if you're so inclined.
Inland Croatia
Move away from the coast to discover inland Croatia with its magnificent undulating terrain. Make for the stunning surroundings of the Plitvice Lakes to find waterfalls, lakes and stunning vistas. Also worth finding time for is the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park in the central Sava River basin region. This wetland area is renowned for its impressive bio-diversity and is a must-visit site for naturalists.
Zagreb is Croatia's capital and largest city and makes a convenient base if you're planning on exploring the country's interior. The city's reputation as a cultural destination has grown in recent years and now an increasing number of visitors come to enjoy its museums, arts venues, open spaces and dining scene.
