Sweden's third largest city, cosmopolitan Malmö is noted for its particularly high quality of living, and has probably existed since at least the late medieval period. In 2008, it celebrated its 350th anniversary as a Swedish city, and is now one of the most bike-friendly places in the world, with nearly 500 kilometres of cycling routes. From Stockholm, Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw and a number of other European destinations, it is possible to take direct flights to Malmö Sturup Airport. Malmö enjoys pleasantly warm summers and fairly cold winters, although winter temperatures here are significantly milder than most other locations at a similar latitude.
The Øresund Bridge
Certainly, no visit to Malmö would be complete without seeing the awe-inspiring Øresund Bridge, which opened in 2000 and links Sweden to Denmark. The cable-stayed bridge, which is nearly eight kilometres long, includes a four-kilometre underwater tunnel, and weighs approximately 82,000 tonnes.
The three squares
Spend some time in Malmö’s three picturesque square&colon Stortorget (Big Square), Gustav Adolfs torg (Gustav Adolf's Square), and Lilla torg (Little Square). They are surrounded by numerous elegant cafés and historic landmarks, including the impressive 16th-century Malmö City Hall (Big Square).
Malmö Castle
Originally built in the early 15th century, Malmö Castle was a strategic military stronghold for many years, and was a prison until the early 20th century. Today, the castle serves as a museum, and is regularly open to the public, who can explore the interior and enjoy a pleasant walk around the scenic grounds.
The Kungsparken
Have a stroll in the attractive Kungsparken, a public park that is known for its rich wildlife and splendid water gardens. It's a glorious oasis in the heart of the city, and is particularly beautiful when covered in snow.
St Petri (St Peter's Church)
One of Sweden's finest churches, St Petri is noted for its very tall tower, and was originally built around seven centuries ago.
