A buzzing destination with many interesting places close by, Rochester is a typical American city with lots going on whatever the season.
If you visit during the winter months expect cold, icy weather, while the summers are pleasant and warm. If you get chance and the weather's nice, it's definitely worth popping over to the Rochester Public Market to get into the swing of city life.
Things to do
Rochester has so many eclectic, vibrant neighbourhoods to explore, the difficulty is knowing where to start. If you'd like to visit an arty hub, pop across to Corn Hill. This district is a really beautifully preserved Victorian area too, so be prepared to be wowed by the architecture. And for nightlife, the East End is the place to go.
There are plenty of museums and galleries in the city too. Just a couple of suggestions include The Strong National Museum of Play where you can wander down Sesame Street, and George Eastman House. This grand old building is a photography museum complete with a cinema and lovely grounds.
To see some of the gorgeous surrounding countryside, get over to Finger Lakes Wine County and have a relaxing day to remember in the picturesque rolling hills.
Make yourself at home
For popular Rochester hotels, try Strathallan DoubleTree by Hilton, Hampton Inn Rochester North or Marriott Rochester Airport. But make sure to have a good look at your options – there's something for all tastes and budgets.
When it comes to dining out, make sure to sample the local sausage, the White Hot if you're on the go. Or for a more leisurely meal, visit Swan Market deli, a Taste of Ethiopia for authentic Ethiopian dishes, and Park Avenue Pub & Restaurant for a mix of cuisines including French and American.
