Canary Wharf is a major business district located in Tower Hamlets, London. One of Britain's two main financial centres, it contains many of Europe's tallest buildings, including the second tallest in Great Britain, One Canada Square. Another free attraction nearby is the Museum of London Docklands, which sits on West India Quay. Celebrating city life next to the River Thames from the Roman era onwards, the museum is home to some superb exhibitions. The era of sugar and slavery, London’s 19th-century heyday when the city was the largest port in the world, and the traumas of the Blitz are all covered.

Surrey Docks Farm

Children will love the Surrey Docks Farm, another free attraction – although donations are always welcome. This is a 2.2-acre working farm right in the middle of London city, complete with donkeys, cows and pigs for the children to meet and pet. There’s also a working forge and a blacksmith who puts on regular displays of his craft.

After dark

At the end of the day, locals and visitors alike can find plenty to entertain them in Canary Wharf, with its variety of cocktail and wine bars in which to spend a few boozy hours. Canary Wharf is bursting at the seams with dining options, and whether you're looking for steak, sandwiches or Japanese cuisine, Canary Wharf has something for you. Or try Boisdale, with its selection of classic seafood and steaks and the novelty of cigar tasting. Looking for a taste of Japan? Then head to Roka, where they serve delicious sushi and other modern Japanese dishes. Sunday is a great day to visit, as they serve an all-you-can-eat brunch.
