Housed in a beautiful Grade I listed building, Dinosaurland Fossil Museum contains a large selection of local fossils, including ammonite and even dinosaur dung. However, if you would like to find your own souvenir fossils, head to Monmouth Beach where you can see ammonites of all shapes and sizes. You can also explore Black Ven, and although this beach is harder to reach, it's worth the time.

Centrally located, Lyme Regis Museum is home to a range of exhibitions focussing on local art, history and heritage. The museum also delivers fossil walks, rock pooling and Lyme history walks.

Situated at the tip of the historic Cobb harbour, made famous by Meryl Streep in The French Lieutenant's Woman and with views overlooking the Lyme bay, is Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium. At this family attraction you can see a range of sea life including lobsters, starfish and sea mice.

The Town Mill provides a step back in time. Take a tour around the restored working watermill to see how corn is converted to flour and how the mill produces electricity. The Town Mill also has a gallery, gardens and a café to enjoy.

The Undercliff is one of the largest coastal landslips in Western Europe. Stretching seven miles in length, you can walk through this National Nature Reserve along the South West Coast Path.

Food and drink

After a long day fossil hunting, top up those sugar levels at Roly's Fudge Shop with a delicious selection of handmade fudge. There is also a range of independent cafés including Aroma, where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Lyme Regis has ample eateries including English, Thai, Italian, Asian and of course, freshly caught seafood. However a trip wouldn't be complete without fish and chips. Local chip shops offer take-away and eat-in and have a wide selection of fish.
