During the 18th century it became a major trade hub, supporting a thriving woollen mill industry. But today, the town's best known for having the oldest university in Wales. University of Wales, Trinity Saint David was founded in the early 19th century and it's a collection of stunning historic buildings, with much of the ground being open to the public.

The best way to find out about Lampeter is to go on one of the regular Town Heritage Trails. You'll learn about Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' time there during the Second World War, pop across to the 1921 War Memorial on your way, and visit the historic Lampeter Rugby Club.

If you'd like to really relax, go to the gorgeous Cae Hir Gardens, book onto a horse riding tour, or simply stroll through the town, taking in the unspoilt traditionally Welsh streets, browsing in charming shops along the way and unwinding in the local cafés.
