Out and about
Henry VIII's favourite royal residence is what brings the majority of visitors to this part of London, and with so much to do in and around the palace it's little surprise the area attracts locals and tourists alike. Step back in time as you admire the splendour of the palace's corridors and state apartments and explore its impressive maze and gardens.
Head to the Cumberland Art Gallery to find exquisite works by the likes of Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Canaletto, or step into Henry VIII's Kitchens to find out what it took to feed 600 hungry mouths twice a day.
Escape the crowds by heading to nearby Bushy Park with its roaming herds of Red and Fallow deer. Be sure to find time to visit the park's formal Baroque water garden, Chestnut Avenue, and the wonderful Diana Fountain.
Festivals
Each summer Hampton Court Palace Festival is attended by thousands of music lovers and if your visit to the area coincides with the event then why not consider packing up a picnic and enjoying an evening of live music. A huge number of world-renowned artists have played at Hampton Court in years gone by, including The Beach Boys, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John and Art Garfunkel.
Another annual event that attracts a large number of visitors is the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, now the largest of its kind in the world. The event is managed by the Royal Horticultural Society and sees more than 130,000 horticulturists flood through the gates of the palace each summer.
Shopping
The palace itself has four shops selling a variety of essentials and gift items. Pick up a horticultural book at the Garden Shop, or perhaps get some ideas for 16th century recipes at the Tudor Kitchens Shop.
Eating and drinking
There's a great selection of dining options within the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. Visit the Tiltyard Café or the Fountain Court Café to find a wide range of snacks and light menu options throughout the day. The Privy Kitchen offers light lunches and hot meals in a 16th century dining hall.
