A day at the races
Hamilton Park Racecourse is without doubt one of the town's biggest draws when it comes to attracting visitors. Located just to the north of Hamilton, the track runs a full programme of events during the summer months. Highlights include the Festival of Food & Drink Raceday, Ladies' Night and the Saints & Sinners 50th Anniversary Racenight.
Local attractions
Hamilton is rich in history, with many attractions and museums dedicated to telling the story of the local area. Based in historic buildings that once formed part of the Duke of Hamilton's estate, the Low Parks Museum offers a fascinating look at life in South Lanarkshire and the impact of industry and housing on the area and its residents.
You might also want to consider a trip to Blantyre, the birthplace of 19th-century explorer and missionary David Livingstone. The house he was born in has been turned into the David Livingstone Centre, and tells the story of his life.
There are plenty of opportunities to get active around Hamilton. Stretch your legs with a visit to Chatelherault Country Park to the south of the town, where you can view a restored 18th-century hunting lodge and follow one of the woodland nature trails through the grounds. Consider catching your own supper during a salmon fishing trip on the River Tay, or practicing your swing at Strathclyde Park Golf Course.

Avonbridge Hotel Restaurant offers an Italian-inspired menu within a boutique hotel environment, while Leonardo's Italian Restaurant also focuses on serving quality Italian dishes using the freshest ingredients.
The Bully Inn is situated nearby in the village of Quarter. Here you can expect to find an excellent range of dishes and first class service. For a quick and tasty supper, consider dropping by Alfies Chippy on Gateside Street in Hamilton.
