Lasting history

Uniquely, Constance's old town has remained almost exactly as it was during the Middle Ages to give visitors a glimpse of its true history. Known as Neiderburg, the area is defined by its mediaeval lanes and towering cathedral. The St Stephan Church is located a short walk from the cathedral, attracting tourists with its beautiful painted glass windows and ceiling murals. A little south is the fountain at Marktstätte, which is conveniently surrounded by cafés and ice cream parlours providing a quick refreshment.

A shopping paradise

Constance's relaxed nature and stunning surroundings have seen it grow as a thriving shopping destination. Lago Mall is the main retail attraction, bringing together famous high street names and lesser known gems. A stroll back through the old town also allows you to browse independent stores and flea markets on certain days to pick up a unique memento of your stay. There's a farmers market held on select midweek days at St Stephans Platz too, the ideal destination to pick up fresh produce if you've booked an apartment.

Showcasing culture

With so much history, Constance has a rich culture to discover. The Rosgarten Museum showcases artefacts and art pieces to educate visitors on the region, and at the Sea Life Centre you can explore the world beneath the Alps seas and rivers. At the Culture Centre you'll find a public library, art club and the Wessenberg Gallery, home to over 6,000 exhibits and art collections. If you're drawn to classical music, over 100 concerts are performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra who have their base in Constance.
