How to reach Ios

Flight time: There are no flights to Ios, so you’ll need to route through a nearby island. Flights to Santorini from London take about 4 hours, while flights to Mykonos from London take 3 hours 40 or thereabouts.

Transfer time:

• Taxiing from Santorini or Mykonos airports to their respective ports takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

• The ferry crossing from Santorini to Ios ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

• From Mykonos, the crossing takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours.

• Ios Town is 2km from the port.

Price:

• Expect to pay around €50 for a taxi from Santorini Airport to the port; taxi fares from Mykonos Airport should be around the €20 mark.

• Ferry ticket prices vary depending on the season and the operator.

• April to June sees temperatures ranging from 19 to 29°C, minimal rainfall and 9 to 11 hours of sunshine daily. These are excellent months for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

• July to August is the ideal time for sun holidays. Hot, dry weather is pretty much guaranteed. Expect temperatures hovering around 30°C, long hours of daily sunshine and crowds.

• September to October brings a drop in temperature (27 to 23°C) and some showers (5 to 30mm), but there are still 7 to 10 hours of sunshine daily, and sea temperatures remain pleasantly warm.

• November to March is Ios’ off-season, with cooler temperatures (around 14 to 15°C) and 5 hours of sunshine at most. These months tend to be windy and rainy, and you can expect holiday resorts to shut up shop for the season.
