Sightseeing

Most visitors begin their visit to Sudan in the country's capital, Khartoum. Vibrant and modern, the city has numerous sites of interest. The National Museum, with its extensive collection of artefacts that date from prehistoric times through to the present day, is a great place to learn about the history of the country. The museum also regularly hosts cultural events. Find time to view the Presidential Palace in Khartoum and visit the attached museum, before making your way to the impressive Omdurman Souq. The market is the largest of its kind in Sudan and traders come here to sell an incredibly diverse range of products from jewellery to clothing. Also worth a visit while in Khartoum is the Ethnographical Museum, which provides an intriguing snapshot of Sudanese village life. Sudan is filled with places of incredible natural beauty, such as Sanganeb National Park on the western shore of the Red Sea near Port Sudan. The reserve covers an area of about 26,000 hectares and is home to an amazingly diverse collection of marine life, including three species of sharks, turtles, dolphins and more than 100 groups of coral reef. Unsurprisingly, diving is an incredibly popular pastime in this part of the country.
