Idyllic, white sandy beaches, reggae music and lush scenery, it's easy to understand the wide appeal of Jamaica. The island has been a favourite with holidaymakers looking for a piece of paradise for decades.
With its laid-back vibe and gorgeous setting, it really is a perfect destination for a memorable getaway. And flights to Jamaica go straight to the sublime Montego Bay, a great place to start the holiday.
Seeing the sights
The beaches are always a popular must-see for anyone visiting Jamaica. The coral surrounding the island make it a great spot for diving or snorkelling, and the warm, azure waters with pristine stretches of sand are perfect for relaxing. Head to resorts like Montego Bay and Negril to experience some of the best.
Away from the coastline, you can tour natural wonders like the Black River, and the cascades of water at YS Falls, one of the island's most beautiful nature reserves. Or to see something truly mesmerising, visit Glistening Waters to see this magical, glowing lake light up.
Enjoying the cuisine
The food in Jamaica is a mouth-watering mix of creole cooking with distinctly modern influences. You can enjoy hearty stews, spicy meats and tropical fruits.
Eateries range from charming little garden restaurants like Just Natural, offering affordable prices, authentic dishes and a great setting, right through to waterside wine bars with typically Jamaican classics and a buzzing atmosphere.
While you're there, make sure to get some fine rum to accompany your meal. Or, for a slightly different way to spend a day, visit one of the local rum estates to sample a truly authentic taste of Jamaica.
Culture and history
A trip to Jamaica wouldn't be complete with a visit to the Bob Marley Museum. The artist is regarded as a musical legend throughout the world, and here you can explore the quaint, characterful house where he lived and worked from the 1970s until his death in 1981.
For something a little different, check out Nas Natago Gallery and Garden to soak up the breathtaking landscapes, and work your way around the impressive art displays inside.
Going out
Well known for its musical legacy, there are lots of great nightlife spots to dance the night away in Jamaica.
As Jamaica's capital city, Kingston has a vibrant mix of bars, including Usain Bolt's Tracks & Records, right through to laid-back music cafés. But if you'd really like to party, make sure to go to one of the local dancehalls. Nightlife doesn't warm up until late in Jamaica though. And Kingston is the island hotspot for truly late night parties, so ease yourself in gently to you make the most of your night.
Over in Montego Bay, explore the bars along the always packed Hip Strip, or let your hair down in a club until the small hours. This area tends to attract a slightly more upmarket local crowd, but that doesn't make it stuffy in any way. In typical Jamaican style, you can still expect great grooves and a relaxed party vibe.
