Albania is fast becoming one of the go-to destinations for a sunny beach break. The country’s beautiful mountains give way to a stunning coastline with great sunsets and the warm Adriatic or Ionian to swim in. Many visitors like to combine a hiking and beach holiday here, to get the best of everything.
The best bit about an Albania beach holiday is the sheer choice of beach resorts in every budget. You can find five-star establishments with pools and spa facilities, alongside family-run three-star spots offering a simple bed-and-breakfast, just steps from the beach. Whether you’re heading to Dürres for a quick beach fix, just a short drive from the capital, or you’re planning a leisurely road trip along the Albanian Riviera, we’ve picked our favourite beach hotels for all budgets.
Some of the best beaches in Albania are found along the Albanian Riviera. The Riviera covers the stretch of the Ionian coast between Lukovë in the south and near Dhërmi in the north. Borsch, Himare and Gjilekë are some of the best-known and most-popular resort towns on the riviera itself. Drymades Beach and Palasa Beach near Gjilekë, as well as Livadi Beach and Llamani are the best-loved beaches in the region.
Outside of the Albanian Riviera, some of the top beach resorts to visit include Sarandë – easily accessible via ferry from Corfu – and sandy Dürres, which is just a short trip from the capital Tirana. The dreamy resort town of Ksamil is also a go-to beach destination in the south of the country, promising bath-like swimming conditions and pristine lido beaches.
