The days start early on Antigua. Head to Dickenson Bay and take a leisurely stroll along this long stretch of beach while losing yourself in the early morning solitude. Sit back, relax and enjoy a stress-free breakfast at the Bay House Restaurant (Trade Winds Hotel) looking out over the Caribbean Sea.
Best for: A perfect morning in Antigua
While you’re there: Dine on Antiguan butter bread for a treat in the morning. It’s a soft buttery loaf of bread often served with cheese.
Travel to the south coast for a visit to Nelson’s Dockyard, passing through All Saints, the second largest town on Antigua. En route to the Dockyard, stop off at Falmouth Harbour and take a wander down the jetty to gaze in amazement at the floating gin palaces tied up here.

While you’re there: Note that if you’re travelling with older kids, the Rainforest Zip Line offers an exhilarating experience.
At English Harbour, Nelson’s Dockyard is the only existing Georgian dockyard in the world and is now a designated National Park. There are many restored sites to visit within the parameters, plus it’s home to the interesting Dockyard Museum. It opened in 1855 and presents the history of the dockyard.

While you’re there: If you’re looking for more nature, head to the Botanical Gardens which was established in 1893.
Check out St John’s, where shopping opportunities abound on the waterfront at Heritage and Redcliffe quays, a picturesque area of preserved buildings. Pause for a coffee break at Harbour View in Redcliffe Quay, known as a great people-watching spot. If you’re hungry head to Fred’s Belgian Waffles and Ice Cream for a sweet treat.

While you’re there: The waterfront boardwalk leads into the beautifully restored Redcliffe Quay, on Redcliffe Street.
If you’re one for a hike, ascend the hill for lunch at Shirley Heights Lookout. Be rewarded with terrific views out over English Harbour and beyond while you dine on the restaurant’s speciality - seafood. You can also take in views of Falmouth and even the Montserrat volcano in the distance.
Best for: Incredible views
While you’re there: Make sure to see the Cenotaph while you’re in Antigua. It is a monument to the Antiguans who died in World War I.
What to do in Antigua? Hit the beach of course. Head west along the coast passing many sensational beaches. Divert off at Ffryes Bay to spend time relaxing on the sand soaking up the sun’s rays or taking a dip in the warm sea. Sun loungers and snorkelling gear are available to rent (there is a reef right off the shore where you can check out the sea life). Simply chilling on the beach is one of the best things to do in Antigua.

While you’re there: Make the most of the fantastic surf, diving and snorkelling opportunities here.
Head back to All Saints and take a scenic spin down Fig Tree Drive, which twists and turns its way through the lush rainforest back towards the coast. It’s a great way to see the island’s tropical foliage and pick up some local crafts and artwork at Fig Tree Studio Art Gallery.

The west coast is the perfect spot from which to be captivated by the sun setting over the Caribbean Sea. So hang around a bit longer at Dennis’s Cocktail Bar (Happy Hour 4-6pm), sip a tropical cocktail and be awestruck by the magical sunset.
Best for: Sunset views
While you’re there: Head to Heritage Market. A vibrant vegetable and fruit market, it’s one of the most exciting things to do in Antigua.
If you want to freshen up, return to your accommodation before heading out to Dickenson Bay for dinner at Coconut Grove open-air restaurant. After dinner, hang out, chill and party at BeachLimerz on Fort James Beach. They also hold karaoke evenings so you can sing the night away too!
