There’s plenty of entertainment aimed at tourists, and Hurghada is also a great base for Egypt tours to world-famous sites like the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. Check out our guide to the best places to stay in Hurghada for everyone from families to couples.
When deciding where to stay in Hurghada, the choice comes down to the city itself versus the neighbouring resort towns. Hurghada proper has a wide range of accommodation from budget to luxury, largely clustered around the El Mamsha promenade and the coastal Sheraton Road. A stay here puts you at the heart of the hustle and bustle. The popular resort towns nearby are El Gouna (to the north) and Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and Soma Bay (all to the south). Here, you’ll find large hotels offering all the amenities, such as all-inclusive dining and on-site water parks. It’s more tranquil here than in Hurghada itself, but the trade-off is sometimes not quite as much going on outside your hotel.
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal – pleasant but not too sweltering
Best for: Hurghada for the action, neighbouring resort towns for max relaxation
