Beach life

The centre point of Nha Trang's beach life is the 6km arc of golden sands that make up Nha Trang Beach. Along the beachfront you'll find a number of different sections dedicated to swimming as well as spaces where jet skis and boats are allowed to roam. Perfect for everything from making sandcastles with the kids to enjoying a romantic paddle in the warm turquoise waters, Nha Trang Beach is one of Vietnam's most celebrated holiday spots.

If you fancy having a go at snorkelling or scuba diving, Vinadive diving centre, Coco Dive Center and Jeremy Stein's Rainbow Divers are just three of the companies based in the area that provide everything from introduction snorkelling lessons to full certification training. Nha Trang Sailing Club is the best destination if you'd like to try your hand at sailing and The Shack offer surfing lessons for all ability levels.

Hop on a cable car from the shore and you'll be whisked away to Hon Tre Island, home to a number of excellent beaches as well as the enormous Vinpearl Water Park and Amusement Park.

History and culture

Head north of Nha Trang and you'll soon reach the Po Nagar Cham Towers, dating from between the 7th and 12th century and still actively used as a centre of worship for Cham Buddhists. The north tower, Thap Chinh, dates from 817 is the most impressive and well worth the journey from the city centre. The 19th-century Long Son Pagoda is another important Buddhist site, set beside a magnificent 14m Buddha statue, and the 20th-century Nha Trang Cathedral is a striking example of the French Gothic architectural style.

If you're interested in learning more about the local Cham ethnic group, the Khanh Hoa Museum has a number of interesting exhibitions including a number of statues and historical artefacts. The Alexandre Yersin Museum is another popular museum, dedicated to Dr Alexandre Yersin who introduced rubber trees to Vietnam and helped to find the causes of Bubonic plague.

Food and drink

Nha Trang's popularity with tourists means that the city has an excellent range of international restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The area is renowned for its seafood and there are several local specialities to try, including jellyfish with rice and Banh Canh Noodle Soup. When it comes to the area's nightlife Crazy Kim Bar is a lively western-style bar, the Red Apple Club is popular with backpackers and Why Not Bar? serves drinks late into the night.
