Rotterdam is a city jam-packed with culture to soak up. Amongst the new buildings the protestant church of Sint Laurenskerk stands out as something a little older. The church itself managed to survive through thick and thin, now the only piece of medieval architecture in the city. From the outside, the building is worth seeing and inside it still functions as a centre for the community.
Rotterdam holidays are a great way to learn more about the history of Europe, and especially the war. One famous landmark in Rotterdam is the statue “Rotterdam destroyed” which pays tribute to those lost in the German bombing of the city.
Family fun
For a livelier day out, and something for the kids, Rotterdam is host to plenty of family friendly attractions. The Rotterdam Zoo can be a nice way to spend an afternoon, as well as the theme park Plaswijckpark, ideal for younger children. Rotterdam also contains the Stadium Feijenoord, home to a Dutch premiership football team and regular host to the national side.
