Waterloo Station in Lambeth, Central London, is the busiest train station in the whole of the UK, and is close to the River Thames and some of the best London attractions.

The station

London Waterloo is managed by National Rail and is located near the South Bank of the River Thames. The first station here was built in 1848 and the present structure was inaugurated in 1922. With roughly 94 million passenger entries and exits per year, Waterloo is Britain's busiest and largest station.

Things to do

There are a large number of popular London attractions within walking distance of Waterloo. Families will enjoy a skyward trip on the London Eye, which rises 135 metres into the London skyline, offering views of up to 25 miles from the top.

Get up close and personal with some sharks and piranhas, as well as 3,000 other types of marine life at the three-storey-high London Aquarium.

The Imperial War Museum on Lambeth Road gives a fascinating look at the stories of modern war and conflict as experienced by the people of London. Highlights of the museum include new First World War galleries and a Family in Wartime exhibit, about a family in the Blitz during WWII.

Another fascinating look back into wartime history can be had at the Florence Nightingale Museum. The museum was originally part of the school of nursing at the St. Thomas hospital, founded by Florence Nightingale in 1860. Known for her nursing work during the bloody Crimean War, here visitors can see many of her personal belongings, which are on public view.

Waterloo is full of classy cocktail and wine bars, classic pubs, nightclubs, live music and more, with something for just about everyone come nightfall. Early on, grab a cocktail at the Cabin Bar at the station, or have drinks with friends at the classy Topolski Gallery and Bar.

The Ministry of Sound London, is possibly one of the most well-known nightclubs in the entire world, and is well worth a visit to dance the night away. Or for a slightly less hectic vibe, try The Vaults beneath the station where live music and club nights are regularly held.
