Wellingborough was granted its market charter in 1201, and still holds a general market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and a bric-a-brac market on Tuesdays.
The Swansgate Shopping Centre is the town's main shopping centre, with more than 50 stores. As well as plenty of national chains, the town has a number of more individual shops selling clothes, jewellery, knitting and sewing materials and kitchenware. Captain Neil's Toy Chest stocks a variety of toys and games, and there is a Polish delicatessen called Maria Delicatessen.
Wellingborough also has a leisure centre with two swimming pools and a gym and a laser tag centre.
You can explore the history of Wellingborough on the town heritage trail.
