The village is reputed to be haunted by a number of ghosts, including a phantom coach driven by a murderer named Tobias Gill who was hung in the 18th century. George Orwell is believed to have seen a ghost at Walberswick Church. Orwell said the figure was dressed like a workman and that he crossed the churchyard in front of him.

Boats, nature and beer

Walkers and nature lovers can enjoy over 1,000 acres of heath and marshland which is protected within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area boasts a large and varied bird habitat while the beach and marshland is extremely popular with individuals from the arts, film and media.

During the summer months a small row boat, rowed by the same family for over five generations, ferries visitors across the River Blyth to Southwold.

There are many fine eating establishments within Walberswick and also Southwold. Plenty of establishments sell traditional fish and chips and there are some lovely tea rooms too.
